A native of San Diego, Dr. Heriberto “Ed” Gutierrez joined Desert Cardiology in 1996, shortly after completing his cardiology fellowship in Los Angeles. Dr. Gutierrez’s special interests in cardiology include echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and cardiac CT angiography. While he finds imaging technology fascinating, he thoroughly enjoys caring for the cardiac patient. His approach is a combination of problem solving and compassion.
Being fluent in Spanish allows Dr. Gutierrez to fully appreciate and enjoy the culture of Southern Arizona. He enjoys the Tucson lifestyle with Ruby, his wife, and their 2 children. Together they share a wide range of interests, including sporting events, the symphony, museums and science centers. They frequently return to Southern California to visit family and friends.
When not learning about advances in medicine, Dr. Gutierrez studies various topics in history by reading books and watching courses on DVD. The history of science is a favorite topic. He finds it intriguing how ideas develop and change over time. Astronomy is also a fond interest, with the desert nights being very conducive to skywatching.
